Dataset containing the public rights of way of Manchester

Greater Manchester (GM) has 10 councils: Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford and Wigan. Open data for these councils is available from the Greater Manchester Open Data Infrastructure Map which has been produced by New Economy. As explained on this web page, the open data includes data for the public rights of way (PROWs) that are maintained by the 10 councils.

This web page gives some metadata needed to download the PROWS data. For example, here is a link to download a KML file of GM's PROWs. Note that this KML file contains data about the PROWs of all 10 councils.

From this KML file, I have derived a KML file that just has the PROWs of Manchester.

An authority's Definitive Map is the authoritative source of their rights of way. The details of the public rights of way network contained in an authority's data are for information only, and are an interpretation of the Definitive Map, not the Definitive Map itself, and should not be relied on for determining the position or alignment of any public right of way. For legal purposes, an authority's data does not replace their Definitive Map. And changes may have been made to the Definitive Map that are not included in their data. The authority's data contains Ordnance Survey data © Crown copyright and database right 2013. Attempting to view this data with more detail than 1:10000 may produce an inaccurate rendering of the route of a public right of way.

This web page says the PROW data is made available under the Open Government Licence. So it's possible for you to use this data provided you give an attribution.

This web site also provides data about the rights of way of Manchester in KML format and in GeoJSON format.
