Dataset containing the public rights of way of Solihull
The council of Solihull have provided me with an ESRI shape file that has the details of their public rights of way. The ESRI shape file seems to have been created on 20th March 2024. I have bundled up the files of the ESRI shape file into a zip file. My thanks to Nathan Case for being the first to obtain data from Solihull in 2021.
IMPORTANT: Solihull's data uses a STATUS field to indicate the type of the path
using fp for public rights of way that are Footpaths, bw for Bridleways and BOAT for Byways Open to All Traffic.
On July 1st 2022, JS emailed me to say that some paths were missing from rowmap's maps that were on OS maps as public rights of way.
On investigation, these paths had a STATUS field of ufp and had a PATHID that started with the letter U.
I then discovered that this document that had been provided by the Council in their reply to an earlier FOI request that says
"The Urban footpaths within the excluded area of the former Solihull Borough
have also been investigated and are now incorporated in this revision of the Definitive Map.
These paths have been prefixed by the letter U."
So a path has a STATUS of ufp if it's an urban footpath.
And there are 27 paths with a STATUS of ufp. These have now all been added as Footpaths to rowmap's maps and derived data.
An authority's Definitive Map is the authoritative source of their rights of way. The details of the public rights of way network contained in an authority's data are for information only, and are an interpretation of the Definitive Map, not the Definitive Map itself, and should not be relied on for determining the position or alignment of any public right of way. For legal purposes, an authority's data does not replace their Definitive Map. And changes may have been made to the Definitive Map that are not included in their data. The authority's data contains Ordnance Survey data © Crown copyright and database right 2024. Attempting to view this data with more detail than 1:10000 may produce an inaccurate rendering of the route of a public right of way.
The council of Solihull have informed me that the ESRI shape file is made available under the Open Government Licence. So it's possible for you to use this data provided you give the attribution that the data has been provided by the council of Solihull.
