KML files containing the public rights of way of Bath and North East Somerset

On this web page, Robert Whittaker made an EIR request for the public rights of way data of the council of Bath and North East Somerset. The Council has provided him with two sets of MapInfo files. Here is a link to a zip file that has these two sets of MapInfo files. The MapInfo files seem to have been created on 26th November 2019.

An authority's Definitive Map is the authoritative source of their rights of way. The details of the public rights of way network contained in an authority's data are for information only, and are an interpretation of the Definitive Map, not the Definitive Map itself, and should not be relied on for determining the position or alignment of any public right of way. For legal purposes, an authority's data does not replace their Definitive Map. And changes may have been made to the Definitive Map that are not included in their data. The authority's data contains Ordnance Survey data © Crown copyright and database right 2024. Attempting to view this data with more detail than 1:10000 may produce an inaccurate rendering of the route of a public right of way.

This web page indicates that the MapInfo files are made available by the council of Bath and North East Somerset under the Open Government Licence. So it's possible for you to use this data provided you give the attribution that the data has been provided by the council of Bath and North East Somerset.

I have transformed the two sets of MapInfo files into two KML files: KML file for PROWs inside Bath and KML file for PROWs outside Bath.

I have combined the data in these two files and converted this data into the basic format that is used by this web site for all authorities. For each public right of way, this basic format has the name of the authority (Bath and North East Somerset), a unique number within the authority for the public right of way, the name or number of the parish/community, the name or number of the public right of way, the type of the public right of way (i.e., footpath, bridleway, ...) and any additional information about the public right of way that I've obtained from the data supplied by the authority. Here is a link to the converted KML file for Bath and North East Somerset.

This KML file has been augmented with additional information. For each public right of way, the augmented format also includes its length (in miles), the longitude and latitude of its first point, the longitude and latitude of its last point, the eastings and northings of its first point and the eastings and northings of its last point. Here is a link to the augmented KML file for Bath and North East Somerset.

This web site also provides information about the public rights of way of Bath and North East Somerset in GPX format, in CSV format and in GeoJSON format.
